I worked on a film which had huge success doing the festival circuit. www.stringsmovie.com I'd thoroughly recommend them as a vehicle for promoting your film and making connections. Attending the festivals myself as an actor has led to more work acting and connections to agents, casting directors and people to work with on my documentary projects. I also won best supporting actor at The Long Island Festival, which was a nice bonus for my ego...
Congratulations, Jack. It is a great way to meet people, and you never know... Keep at it!
Some festivals draw A list people, producers and some execs. I've certainly made some good connections at some of them. Seems to me it's important for writers to scrub up and get their shiny little faces in front of as many people in the business as possible.
Hey Christine... congrats on taking the April GreenLight.com award. Just saw the post on Movie Bytes.
Thanks, Philip. As it happens, I'm in the quarter finals for 2 other contests on that list. It's been a rewarding 2012 so far! And you're right, the contacts one makes at the festivals are wonderful - if for nothing than a great group of people for whom you can root!
So true. Have made some superb friends at these fests... and in the oh, btw category, the last two years the overall winning screenwriter at the Beverly Hills Film Festival got a ride with me and my partner to the gala. Next year, I'm giving myself a lift. Here's to continued good fortune in the fests... it's not luck when you're a good writer is it?
Here's to lifts, good fortune and talent!
