There is a lot of wisdom in this video. One thing I would add, or make a bit more clear, is that hiring a friend and then it not working out not only can jeopardize your film but can also damage your friendship. I was once hired by a good friend to help him run his company. I told him I would do it but that I valued our friendship more than me having the job. If, at any point, I was not working out for him I would leave rather than hurt our friendship. Fortunately, it went well for both the company and our friendship. But I've seen situations where it did not go well and the friendship was destroyed. An abundance of caution and open, up-front communication is best in these situations. The truth is, my dream is to make movies with my friends and, when it's all over, the movie is great we're still friends. But that's not always possible. Better to say no early than to have a big mess on your hands later.

You and Tom make great points, Tucker Teague! You're right. It's better to say no early than have a big mess on your hands later. I avoided working with friends before because I knew things wouldn't turn out well.
