Is anyone tracking the tariff trade wars for a screenplay? The next Big Short? Even with my MBA I am at a loss to explain the thrust and parry of this elective battle. Still the impact on regular folk may make for some very human stories. I am taking notes as I hear pundits, wonks, and small business owners trying untangle the purported strategy(ies?) My financial advisor pulled out cash from equites I was in on the principal political party transitions are always unstable. This one has turned out to be a doozy. Should be plenty to write about.

I have been following it closely Robert Franklin Godwin III and it would make a great movie or film for sure. What is wild is that the USA did the same thing to Japan and then we got pearly Harbor. China? WW3?

We have been in assymetrical war for quite some time.

sorry asymetrical...Asymmetrical warfare can also describe a conflict in which belligerents' resources are uneven, and consequently, they both may attempt to exploit each other's relative weaknesses. Such struggles often involve unconventional warfare,

Jon Shallit I am primarily interested the personal impact on individuals consumers and small business owners. The entrepreneurial spirit that drives the bulk of the US economy will bear the brunt of increasing prices and a slowing economy. The global tensions will always exist, but I think there are compelling dynamics that will likely affect many online businesses. Think eBay, Esty, people on Shopify and similar platforms. I wonder what their Plan B might look like; or they have even done any preparation. Possibly drug cartel channels might start to include products that are hit so hard by tariffs. Lots of things to chew on for a story.

A good point of reference for the struggles of the working class and poor might be starting with books like ‘Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt’ by Chris Hedges & Joe Sacco.

I have been tracking the impact most closely on services/ tech products, I think payment gateways will start including different fees, and many new middle people will be introduced in different transactions.
As we speak, secondary markets are being created with the help of legal experts, utilizing all sort of exemptions available. Which will help small businesses sell and contract over services for lower than official tariffs.
For people whose livelihood depend on such sales: bad news is that the worst is yet to come. Good news is that, it will NEVER be as bas as described in the news.

This might reduce slave labor in certain countries. I believe that might be a secondary goal. Just MHO.

Jon Shallit Reducing slave labor is a worthy goal. Not one that has been mentioned as the rationale for the tariff trade war. Good if it happens, but not likely in the front of mind for those waging the war.

In MHO always look for the wonder of unintended results, good and bad. If you want less of something, you don't ever forget the butterfly that flaps its wings in China. That insect's actions can cause a tsunami down the road.
