I made a comment on the recent 'Coffee & Content: Let’s Talk About Where You’re Spending Your Time' and RB suggested that I post the story here.
One of the Coffee & Content videos was on 'Marketing' and I commented that ‘Marketing’ seemed to be jumping at me. I had attended a four-day Seminar, that ran over last weekend (15 March), and one of the speakers delivered a line that stayed with me. Don't believe the movie line "Build it and they will come" because the truth is if you build it they WON'T come... unless you tell them it is built and convince them that it is worth coming too. You MUST Market it.
During the Seminar, we occasionally broke into small groups to discuss our learnings and how they applied to our Project. When I mentioned the Documentary that I am working on, one of the participants suggested Crowd Funding and I replied that Crowd Funding was part of my Funding Plan.
Before I had left that group, I had commitments from two of the participants to be contributors to my Crowd Funding Campaign.
I was amazed at how easy it was to get people interested in my Project, just by putting myself ‘out there’ and casually (not advertising or even hinting) mentioning what I was doing.
NETWORKING IS NOT DIFFICULT!
Crowd Sourcing and Crowd Funding flow naturally from just genuinely meeting with people.
(I'll take this opportunity to mention that reading RB's book has really clarified the whole process for me.)

Congratulations on the commitments, Wayne Jarman! I used to have the "Build it and they will come" mindset, and it didn't work. Now, I'm always pitching and trying out new ways to market my scripts and other projects.

Congratulations on your step forward Wayne Jarman and Yes! RB is right. We are our brand, and to make it a success, we need two things: Networking and Marketing. We need to be our own marketeers, there is no other way! I wish you the best with your Crowdfunding:))
