Screenwriting : Entertainment attorney by Gary Rose

Gary Rose

Entertainment attorney

I received an option contract from a producer I have been in contact with and would like to know if there are any entertainment attorneys out there, that for a nominal fee, would review said contract before I sign. Thanks in advance.

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on the option, Gary Rose!

Gary Rose

Thanks Matthew.

I was in the same situation with a Canadian company and hired a Canadian entertainment attorney to review the contract. I didn't consider the fee "nominal," however. Everybody's gotta eat!

Gary Rose

Agree but in my world, no one is worth $550-$700 an hour.

Eric Christopherson

I was charged $700 or perhaps $750 (I forget exactly) in total. But I benefited from a favorable exchange rate at the time, being American. I did learn some things about such contracts and the lawyer did point out the troubling aspects, the points of contention he recommended raising, and he even made a phone call or two on my behalf to the film company's CEO. I may have negotiated a flat rate for the service with the attorney (don't recall anymore), or else he only charged me for an hour or two of his time.

Mario Egiziano

Congratulations! I have Brandon Blake on my network, he's an entertainment attorney, try connecting with him. Good luck.

Gary Rose

Thanks Mario. I will reach out to him.

there was a nice lady who joined here , and made a post that she was an attorney if my memory serves me right !! her name is Sarah Crowne , just type her name in at the search bar

Robert Russo

How much is this possible deal worth? In the grand scheme of things is 750 a big deal compared to how much you could lose from a bad contract? Food for thought.
