Welcome to Introduce Yourself Weekend!

Hello, Stage 32-ers and welcome to our monthly online networking event, Introduce Yourself Weekend! I'm Kay, your friendly Community Manager here on Stage 32, and I will attempt to make my introductory post brief.

Yeah, that never happens... LOL!

As the Community Manager for Stage 32, I invite you to post a little about what you do, what you'd like to do, and who you'd like to meet. Maybe even end your "handshake as a post" intro with an icebreaker question that gets people talking about something you're already interested in. I'd LOVE for y'all to share some of your favorite icebreaking questions in the comments below!

I'm also a writer, producer, and actor currently in Los Angeles, CA, US, but born in Austin, TX and raised in the DC area, so I'm an East Coaster for sure. Right now I'm focused on finishing my latest draft of a series based on a short film called "The Cost of Caring" which explores "compassion fatigue" as experienced through a different caretaking professional each season. The first season focuses on the life and struggles of a professional massage therapist in America, based on my 14 years as a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist. If you'd be interested in doing a script exchange, drop me a DM!

Other than that, I've started a weekly event called "The Victory Round" every Friday where we celebrate and help each other celebrate our victory from the past week in an effort to build confidence. We set the tone with an IG Live at 12pm PST, and then move over to Clubhouse at 12:30 pm PST so attendees can share in an open-mic-styled room without the pressure of being filmed. Be sure to follow me on IG for more information! https://www.instagram.com/k.osswrites/

I also co-host The Coverage Report twice a month with Lit Kilpatrick in the Stage 32 Writer's Room. If you're not part of it, definitely drop an email to our Director of Script Services, Jason Mirch, so you can receive your first month free! J.Mirch@stage32.com

Oh, and I love collecting quotes and sharing them, so here's a little gem I picked up from today's Stage 32 Thought Leader Mixer:

"How did you get your work to this point? Intelligent persistence." - Thank you, Ingrid!

Feel free to share your favorite quotes below as well!

Brian Carlin

Hello Kay! Been a little while since I was able to make an Introduce Yourself post, but I'm back for a bit. Since you asked for a good quote, I'll start off with one of my favorites from perhaps the best documentary ever about filmmaking, American Movie from Mark Borchardt: "That's the American Dream, and this is the American Movie!" American Movie is one of those films that I would recommend to absolutely EVERYONE on this site, because in many ways, we are Mark: having to take every measure, and do things we never thought we could, in pursuit of our filmmaking dreams. Hope you well, Kay!

Damon Day

An Icebreaker question....hm. Hey, if you had one superpower, what would it be?

Brian Carlin

Damon Day the power to write and re-write super fast! :)

Damon Day

Brian Carlin That's a pretty good one, I would like to be second best at everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING. I mean, I might not be the best at say, directing, but I would also be pretty good at surgery, piloting, and more! A jack of all trades, in other words.

Ingrid Wren

If I was a superhero, my superpower would be invisibility. A power that would enable me to disappear into the environment and observe proceedings unseen. To be the fly on the wall. I wouldn't have to bother with conjuring a new identity to meet the circumstances. It'd save a lot of time and angst. But life is not a Marvel movie or a DC comic, so here I am!

Maurice Vaughan

Excellent intro post, Karen "Kay" Ross! "The Cost of Caring" sounds great! Looking forward to the upcoming Victory Round and Coverage Report.

Damon Day, my superpower would be the ability to share other people's superpowers (after asking permission).

Another icebreaker question: If you could have a movie remade with a different director, what would the movie be (and the director)?
