Introduce Yourself : Seeking Musical Theater Composers by Robert D. Carver

Seeking Musical Theater Composers

I have more than a dozen copyrighted projects--books & lyrics covering a wide variety of subjects and musical styles/genres--for which I am seeking composer-collaborators who are willing/able to work temporarily ON A SPECULATIVE BASIS. If I were able to pay, I would be more than happy to do so, but then--like Disney--I would own ALL RIGHTS in the music, no matter how famous my collaborator. The best deal I can currently offer is, if and when a project is optioned for commercial production, we would--in most instances--split the Author's Advance and ALL ROYALTIES 50-50--3% of the show's gross income to each of us, at minimum. Where my libretto is based on/adapted from material copyrighted by a third party, the split would be 2% minimum to each of us.

Samples of my work as a lyricist may be found on my personal page at Number One Music with three songs from "Zarzuela de Ovejunador (The Sheepherder's Opera)" my adaptation and pseudonymous translation of Lope' de Vega's Spanish Golden Age comedy, "Fuente' Ovejuna." A medley from "The Long, Hot Summer Musical Project" can be heard on YouTube, posted by the composer with whom I collaborated three years ago. I was granted conditional stage adaptation rights to the screenplay of the 1958 film by the estate of William Faulkner, pending a Hollywood big screen remake of that minor classic.

If all this is clearly understood and the terms acceptable, please contact me for additional information including a list of projects with capsule descriptions of each, my directing resume'--I write from that perspective, with one eye on the practicalities of staging and the other on the bottom line of the production budget, though there are usually a plethora of characters--and letters of recommendation from current and past collaborators.

Please include your email address or link to your website with samples of your original compositions for real, LIVE human voices, rather than your new arrangements of music by other composers.

Thank you and STAY SAFE.

That tracks - this is still "work for hire", so as part of that contract, you are the sole owner of the rights. Best of luck with your search!
