A Newbies guide to success.

For a screenwriter with no industry contacts, what should a newbie screenwriter do after completing a fair number of covered screenplays? (After the portfolio is big enough to be taken seriously)

Stefano Pavone

Write a query letter for a script you really want to pitch - rewrite it, perfect it, make sure it flows organically and doesn't sound too personal (but not too impersonal, either). Sell your story and skills just enough to make them want to read it, then send it and pray.

Craig D Griffiths

I see you are a casting director.

Talk to the people you know. Any producers or directors you have worked with. Ask them to take a look at your work.

Get their opinion. If they say it is good. Ask them who they think you should contact? If they think your work is good and it will make them look good, they’ll give you names. They may even do an intro email.

You have industry contacts. Use those first.

Louis Tete

Pitch, query letters, network at film festivals...be ready to receive lots of "no" though
