to all you producers and agents out there - help me to understand your world better please.
What does a typical day involve for you? I mean do you get to your desk and there is literally a tray of scripts to read? How did they get to you? Do you read in morning when you are fresh? do you then take something good to a meeting with your peers to discuss?
Do you get phone calls/emails from people saying I am looking for X what do you have or are you ringing around trying to make things happen with a script? How many scripts are you working at one time?
Are you actually deciding on a script or writer or just working from someones direction/approval that's been given to you?
Shed some light.
Thanks.

Kay's correct in that there are all sorts of Producers runnin' around out there so your question really needs to be a bit more specific. As an example, I am retired so I have the time & interest. I've been a Writer, a Field & Line in the past. Now I own (itty bitty) SLB Productions and only produce shorts designed for the festival circuit. I spend my day scouring my area for production crew and talent in my attempt to create an economically viable business locally. (It's damn hard!) I have six +/- award winning short scripts so I'm not looking for more. Because I only make shorts, I do not deal with Agents (I know several). Because I'm such a small time operator in a market that generates little/no economic return, I keep my budgets low - I can personally green light a $20K production myself (but won't).
Producers come in all manor of sizes, shapes and flavors - so hone your question a little. All the best.
Thanks for all the comments guys. Good stuff.
Pete, I think your questions are perfect! they are specific and to the point. Kay didn't want to answer your specific questions, so blazed off on tangents. Would have been more helpful if he applied your questions to himself rather than to other general aspects of the business. I too would like to hear those answers.
the gist of what I go from all of this, is to find a producer with an interest to your script who can then hopefully get it off the ground into production. Is that correct! Or do you send script submissions to a Production company to the attn of a producer. !!
