The presentations this time are:

Nick Arthurs BFE – BAFTA-winning editor and director, with credits including The Witcher, His Dark Materials, A Discovery of Witches and The Alienist. Nick's work demonstrates how editorial decisions shape narrative, character and audience engagement. Discover the power of the edit from one of the industry's most respected storytellers.

Karo Jędrzejczyk MPSE AMPS – Foley Artist & Supervisor and Head of Foley at Sound Disposition. With credits including Disney+'s Alice and Steve, BBC's Death in Paradise and the Cannes-premiered Victorian Psycho, Karo will discuss the creative and technical craft of Foley and its impact on storytelling, while utilising a suitcase full of props.

Andrew Wilson AMPS CAS – BAFTA, RTS and Emmy-nominated Re-Recording Mixer, whose portfolio includes Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Monkey Kingdom and Royal Mob. Andrew brings decades of experience in creating immersive soundtracks for internationally recognised productions. This session will demonstrate how a great sound design and sound mix transforms a good film into a memorable one.

This Let’s Make Films – Speakers Night is about getting real insight from people building it now, plus networking and pitches with creatives ready to collaborate.

There will be a guestlist for the event. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided.

Coffee & Content - Adapting The Shining & Developing the Characters of True Detective

Happy Sunday, everyone. And for those celebrating in the States, Happy Labor Day weekend. In this edition of Coffee & Content, I have two videos I believe you'll find most informative. First up, it's Stanley Kubrick and The Shining. It's well documented that Stephen King was not on board with Kubrick's adaptation of his epic novel. In this video we see how and why Kubrick made his choices in what he included, expanded upon and what he left behind. Next up, a look at the first season of True Detective, widely hailed by many as a masterclass in character development and storytelling. Hey guys! Last month, I posted the 10 Oscar nominated screenplays right here on Stage 32. Since that day, over 50,000 of you have hit the page! Good on you for investing in yourself by using your valuable time to read and explore these acclaimed works. As much as we learn from reading great screenplays, we can learn even more by discussing them. So whaddaya say we do that today and this weekend leading up to the broadcast on Sunday. Which screenplay was your favorite? What stood out to you, good or bad? My favorite? 3 Billboards. Running time, 115 minutes. Script length, 85 pages. Talk about economy of style and substance!
