The biggest obstacle to a writer learning how to write is mindset. Having particular words being used in the writing community impacts on a writers ability to learn. They start focusing on the wrong thing. The idea of RULES is such a thing. People start obsessing about learning the rules and stop focusing on learning the craft. Rules are comforting. If you learn the rules you will succeed. It is far scarier to hear that you will take years to learn a craft with no guarantee to success.
