Hello, creatives!
I hope you're having a creative and productive week.
Just a follow-up on Project Hail Mary.
I noticed another interesting detail in the movie. During his mission, the astronaut sometimes transforms the view around him into Earth landscapes so he doesn't feel completely isolated.
I think that's a very deep idea. Astronauts could easily be affected emotionally. They may experience loneliness, depression, or anxiety after spending such a long time away from their families. On a long mission, such as a journey to Mars, they can't simply call their loved ones whenever they want or take a peaceful walk through a forest or along the beach.
The movie proposes a fascinating speculative solution to this extreme isolation.
I also wonder if that isolation is one of the reasons the astronaut eventually forms such a strong connection with the alien. Once he finds someone who understands his situation, he can't bring himself to leave the alien alone forever.
To me, it feels like a deep reflection on one of humanity's most fundamental needs: not to be isolated. After all, human beings are a social species.
What do you think?
