Rethinking Ravana: Villain, Visionary, or Tragic Hero?”

Hi everyone,

As a storyteller, I’ve always been fascinated by characters who are not simply “good” or “evil” — but exist somewhere in between.

One such character is Ravana.

Often portrayed as the ultimate villain in the Ramayana, Ravana is rarely explored beyond that label. But when you look deeper, he was also one of the most complex figures in mythology — a scholar, a devotee of Lord Shiva, a ruler of immense power and intelligence, and yet… a man ultimately consumed by his own ego.

This contradiction is what inspired my concept:

“Ravana Beyond Villainy: Power, Ego, and the Collapse of Authority.”

This is not a retelling of the Ramayana.

It is a reinterpretation — a psychological and thematic exploration of power, control, and the internal flaws that lead even the greatest minds toward self-destruction.

In today’s world, Ravana’s story feels more relevant than ever.

We see leaders rise with vision and strength, only to fall due to unchecked ambition and ego. The question is not just “Was Ravana evil?” but rather:
