Row K Acquires Maude Apatow’s Poetic License for Mid-Seven Figures

A standout from this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Poetic License marks Maude Apatow’s feature directorial debut and has just been acquired by Row K Entertainment for North American theatrical distribution in the $5.5–$7 million range.

This marks Row K’s fourth major fall acquisition, continuing their fast rise as a new theatrical distributor with festival buzz titles like Dead Man’s Wire and Charlie Harper.

For producers, this is another reminder that festival buzz + strong ensemble casts can still drive competitive distribution deals.

What do you think, does the mid-seven-figure price tag suggest that Row K is betting big on theatrical comedy, or that Apatow’s name recognition gave this film an extra edge in the market?
