Writing for One started as a completely different song. I sat down with every intention of writing something uplifting — about trains, planes, freedom, and love. But somewhere between the first line and the last verse, the melody kept steering me toward the messy truth: sometimes life doesn’t match the plan.
The refrain “I wanted to write…” became my way of letting the listener peek inside that shift, showing how hopeful ideas can turn into confessions of pain, frustration, and the occasional laugh at my own expense. By the time I reached the spoken ending — “I should have written for one” — the song had taken on a life of its own.
It’s not the song I meant to write… but it’s the one that needed to be written.
