  • A Pack of Five

    A Pack of Five (2025)
Film Executive Producer A Pack of Five is Valley of Angels' first production. Inspired by Hedd Wyn; created by John Parr ‘A Pack of Five’ is a short film inspired by the Welsh war poet Ellis Evans, who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele, 31st July 1917. Evans was known as Hedd Wyn (Blessed Peace) - his bardic name, under which he wrote and posthumously won the National Eisteddfod Chair. Over a hundred years on from the “War to end all Wars”, over 180 million soldiers have been killed across countless battlefields throughout the world; together with millions of civilian men, women and children. As relevant now as when Hedd Wyn wrote ‘Rhyfel’ (War), his words and sentiment continue to resonate within the hearts of all those that hear them. Written and directed by John Parr, A Pack of Five tells the story of five battle weary soldiers who meet in a moment of calm and share a cigarette from a pack of five. Unknown to each other it soon becomes clear that they share more than a smoke and that each of them had a connection to Evans; Hedd Wyn. His writing, his story, his sacrifice to save his younger brothers from the carnage of the Front and the tragic loss of a generation that he exemplified, speaks to this day, not only for the people of Wales but for the entire world. Written and directed by John Parr and featuring Rhodri Evan, Simon Nehan, Scott Gutteridge, Ddraig Williams and Rhodri Lewis. Director of Photography - Hayden Denman Sound - Elis Griffiths.
