Biography: Yidnekachew Gashaw Wendimagegn
Yidnekachew Gashaw Wendimagegn is an award-winning filmmaker, journalist, and media professional from Ethiopia, currently residing in Takoma Park, Maryland, USA. With a career spanning over 15 years, he has established himself as a dynamic storyteller across film, journalism, and broadcast media—both in Ethiopia and the United States.
Yidnekachew began his filmmaking journey in 2008. His acclaimed short documentary The Walk of Abuka won Best Documentary at the South Florida Film Festival (2017) and was a finalist at the Nassau Film Festival in New Jersey (2018). His music video SELAMIZIM, which he wrote and directed, became a finalist at the Grecanica Film Festival in Rome, Italy (2018). His one-minute micro short film Humanism was a finalist at the Best Seconds Film Festival in Switzerland (2018).
