The story follows Johnny, an insomniac who refuses to indulge himself in getting a brain-computer interface, thus locking himself away in the real world. He is haunted by hallucinations of his next door neighbor Maria, an underground Virtual ID porno star who Johnny has a fascination with. As the hallucinations try to convince Johnny to get the implant, he understands that in order to remain sane, he has to sleep.
