Insider Intel: What Makes a Package Compelling?

Between AI actors seeking representation and new movie tariffs dominating the headlines, it's been an eventful weekend in Hollywood. But amid industry upheaval, some fundamentals remain unchanged: packages with recognizable names are still in demand.

While business models evolve and distribution channels shift, executives still greenlight projects by attaching talent that audiences recognize. Whether it's a name director, an A-list actor, or an established producer, the right attachment remains the most reliable path from script to screen.

This is why strategic packaging matters now more than ever. Recently, several execs shared a new challenge: determining attachment value in today's fragmented market. A name that drives subscriptions on Netflix may not move the needle on Hulu. Success now requires matching the right talent to the right buyers, the right executive to the right script - and that matchmaking is central to everything we do at Stage 32. While headlines focus on what's changing, we focus on what works: getting scripts that are a fit for your mandate.

This Week’s Exciting Announcements!

This week, we're thrilled to spotlight a Stage 32 Member who was recently hired by Zero Gravity!

Eric Wehr - Published Writer!

Indiana native Eric Wehr sold his low-budget dramedy "The Silent Type" to Champion Entertainment before heading to UCLA's Professional Screenwriting Program. After interning at Benderspink and working as a Script Analyst for Amazon Studios, Eric now writes full-time with multiple projects in development. His current slate includes "THE HOLIDAY HUNT" at Happy Accidents Media and "PRYING EYES" for Zero Gravity Management.

This is exactly why matchmaking sits at the heart of everything we do at Stage 32. In an industry where a name that sells on one platform falls flat on another, and where executives’ needs shift monthly based on their development slates and market dynamics, success isn’t just about having great material - it’s about connecting that material with the right person at the right time.

We’ve spent over a decade building relationships with thousands of executives, managers, agents, and producers, learning their specific mandates, understanding their taste profiles, and tracking their current needs. When you submit to open writing assignments through Stage 32, you’re not just throwing your script into the void and hoping someone notices. Our team actively curates opportunities to ensure writers are targeting executives whose current slate, genre preferences, and career stage align with what you’re offering. Whether it’s connecting Kelly & Kevin with the manager who championed their unique “feel-good horror” voice, or working with contest winners like Eric Wehr, who leveraged their win to sell projects to Zero Gravity for the exact type of thriller they’re developing, these aren’t happy accidents - they’re the result of strategic matchmaking.

Meet the Latest Executives Joining Stage 32

This month, we’re thrilled to welcome six exceptional executives who bring immediate opportunities for writers across multiple genres.

Dan Kavanagh (Development Executive behind BARBARIAN, THEM, and CREEPSHOW) is actively seeking material across nearly every genre for both film and TV. His taste leans more towards genre, so if you have a horror, thriller, sci-fi, or a project with franchise potential, he’s someone you’ll want to connect with.

Matt Corman, showrunner and co-creator who’s worked with Marvel, Warner Bros TV, and NBC Universal on hits like MARVEL’s DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN and COVERT AFFAIRS, is reading TV scripts and offering studio-level notes. If you want to know what a showrunner thinks about your project and you want to get feedback at the highest level to make sure you are buyer-ready, this is an opportunity you can’t miss.

Katherine Wu (Producer and Exec on OUTER RANGE, THE FLASH, NANCY DREW) brings her experience working with Amazon Studios, The CW, and A&E to find drama, comedy, action, sci-fi, and fantasy projects. This is your chance to connect with an executive who has worked for both buyers and networks. If you want to know what it takes to get a greenlight, she is the advocate you need behind your project.

Amy Chen from Janet Yang Productions, who’s worked with Blumhouse and Hello Sunshine, is specifically seeking horror, thriller, action, sci-fi, fantasy, and animation. She’s worked at the most prestigious production companies in town, so she knows a thing or two about how to package, develop, and sell a project to studios.

Tamer Ahsan from Zero Gravity Management is actively building his roster with comedy, action, sci-fi, fantasy, family, and holiday features after being an agent for 15+ years. This is the perfect time to meet with a manager who is potentially signing clients, wants to discover new voices, and take out new projects to the town!

Will Fritz from The Radmin Company is reading drama, comedy, horror, and thriller TV scripts. Working at a boutique management company as an executive, Will is used to supporting the firm’s clients while actively looking for material that they can attach themselves to. A unique perspective in a package-driven market!

What makes this group particularly valuable isn’t just their impressive credits - it’s that they’re all actively developing new projects right now and have specific mandates they’re trying to fill. These aren’t executives passively browsing submissions; they’re hunters looking for material that fits their current slates.

This is why our Success team is constantly connecting with thousands of executives and bringing you the best opportunities. Whether it’s new executives offering pitch sessions, hosting a Q&A, or hearing pitches in the Writers’ Room webcasts or offering consultations and coverage, Stage 32 is where you can elevate your career and develop your craft.

In a fragmented market where one-size-fits-all approaches no longer work, having a team that understands both sides of the equation and can make intelligent introductions isn’t just valuable - it’s essential. You simply can’t afford to write in a vacuum and hope that something sticks. Our team is here to help you.
