Every great project starts with a story—but your career only moves forward when you can sell that story. Whether you're chasing representation, financing, production partners, or buyers, pitching is one of the most essential skills you can build in this industry. Opportunities don't just show up in formal pitch meetings—they show up at festivals, in casual conversations, and in rooms you didn't expect to be in. When you know how to communicate your project quickly and effectively, you turn those moments into momentum. This lab isn't about learning to promote one script—it's about becoming the kind of storyteller the industry wants to keep hearing from.

If you've ever walked out of a pitch meeting wondering what went wrong, you're not alone. The biggest mistake you can make is treating your pitch like a plot summary instead of a sales tool. It's easy to get lost in unnecessary details, lose sight of what makes your project marketable, or leave decision-makers unsure why they should care. On top of that, you might be wrestling with confidence, struggling to organize your ideas, or unsure how to adapt your pitch depending on who's in the room. This lab was built to solve exactly that—giving you a proven approach to constructing and delivering a compelling 5-minute concept pitch that highlights your project's strengths, keeps your audience engaged, and gives you the confidence to seize every pitching opportunity that comes your way.

You'll be learning directly from Ewan Dunbar, who brings almost two decades of international entertainment experience to this lab. Ewan has developed and produced titles that landed on Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, and Amazon/MGM, with a focus on helping filmmakers make their unique creative work stand out. His recent projects include the upcoming Colin Firth and Isla Fisher-led drama BARE, the Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jack Quaid-led crime/comedy NOWHERE MEN, and the ensemble feature BERLIN, I LOVE YOU starring Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, and Mickey Rourke. Before moving into development, Ewan worked in international sales, production management, and assistant directing on titles like WORLD WAR Z and RUSH, and he regularly judges, speaks, and mentors at film festivals and industry programs—which means you're learning from someone who understands pitching from every side of the table.

Over five weeks, you'll build your pitch from the ground up—starting with the fundamentals of storyselling, moving into the anatomy of a 5-minute concept pitch, learning how to distill a full script down to its essential hook, and finally putting it all into practice through a one-on-one consultation and a live workshop with your peers. By the end of this lab, you'll walk away with a polished, confident 5-minute pitch you can bring into any room—and the skills to adapt it for whatever opportunity comes next.

This interactive Stage 32 class is held on Zoom and goes substantially more in depth than a Stage 32 webinar. Best of all? As soon as you sign up you will be linked on email with your Stage 32 Educator and given a questionnaire to fill out and send back to them. You will have access to your Educator for the duration of your class by email to ask them any questions you have about your craft or career - it’s like having a mentor on demand! And, if you can't make a live session, don't worry! All class recordings will be available 48 hours after each session and you will be able to view them in your Library on your Stage 32 profile. Finally, you can expand your network with like-minded creatives - you'll have a dedicated lounge for interactive support and discussions with your fellow classmates!

Praise For Ewan's Work and Teaching

“ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Ewan delivered more in 20 minutes than other presenters do in an hour, and it NEVER felt rushed and he was always easily understandable. I cannot wait to get the handouts!” --Bob S.

"I've taken many years of webinars, gone to many conferences, and taken many courses on feature script writing. I've won a Grand Prize in a major festival for a screenplay. And I'm old enough to be an honest critic. Ewan Dunbar's webinar was one of the best I have ever taken! Organized, filled with useful information, he sounded like he really cared about helping the audience be better at what they want to do, and wasn't making an obvious pitch for himself as a consultant --although I'd call on him anytime." --Roberta P.

"Very good, very knowledgeable and very organized. Great presentation and webinar. I walked away with lots of ideas about polishing my pitch decks to make sure they stand out." --James B.

“Ewan’s presentation was excellent! I learned so much from him and now feel 100% confident in creating a pitch deck. He is truly an expert.” --Margaret M.
